Cam Newton’s Controversial Autograph Session Has Weak Turnout

Late last week, Cam Newton was criticized for holding a pay-for-autograph session inCharlottethat would cost fans nearly $200 for his signature.

That autograph session came and went a lot more quietly.

Just 300 fans showed up at SouthPark Mall on Saturday to see the Carolina Panthers quarterback. What was even more alarming is that many of the fans who showed up weren’t even Panthers fans – they were Auburn fans. The session, scheduled to last two and half hours, lasted only one. There just weren’t enough people there to fill out the whole time slot.

Autograph prices ranged from $125-$175, with an extra $50 charge for a personalized message.

While I can’t blame Newton for doing this, I think it’s safe to say there won’t be another pay-for-autograph session anytime soon. This was embarrassing for Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers and the fans.

What a mess.
