Carolina Panthers Latest News and Notes: Andre Neblett Suspended, Greg Hardy Brags About Speeding

Andre Neblett Violates NFL’s PED Policy

The NFL has announced that Panthers defensive tackle Andre Neblett has been suspended without pay for the first four regular-season games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The suspension will be a costly one for Neblett. The 6-0, 295-pound third-year pro will forfeit a quarter of his salary – $135,000 – over the course of the suspension.

Neblett, undrafted out of Temple in 2010, started four games last season amidst the slew of injuries on the Carolina defensive line. Prior to the suspension, Neblett was expected to rotate at defensive tackle with Terrell McClain, Sione Fua, Frank Kearse and Ron Edwards.

Neblett is still permitted to take in part in preseason practices and games.

The Panthers are not allowed to comment on the suspension.

Greg Hardy Tweets a Picture of His Speedometer

On Tuesday, Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy posted a photo showing his Bentley’s speedometer reading over 100 mph, furthering the case that pro athletes shouldn’t be able to use social media.

Hardy posted a photo of the speedometer of his Bentley traveling over 100 mph. The photo has since been taken down, but the accompanying tweet, “Ride n in the big B” can still be seen on his Twitter page.

On Wednesday morning, Panthers center Ryan Kalil responded to Hardy’s tweet with a picture – showing a Bentley speedometer clocked at 25 mph – that he says Steve Smith sent him. Along with the picture, Kalil tweeted, ” “Smitty heading to work out slow and steady.”

Hardy, who missed three weeks of training camp last summer after being involved in a motorcycle wreck, needs to take a cue from Smith and ease up on the gas pedal. Apparently, it’s going to take more than a badly skinned leg to get the 23-year-old Hardy to practice safe driving habits.
