Charles Barkley on Auburn Paying Cam Newton: ‘That’s a Good Damn Investment’

Former NBA star and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley has never been one to keep his thoughts to himself.

Now, Auburn University – Barkley’s alma mater – wishes he had.

Barkley attended NBA star Dirk Nowitzki’s charity baseball game over the weekend in Frisco, Texas, and was videotaped telling jokes in the locker room.

In the video – which has quickly gone viral on the Internet – Barkley admits trying to bribe Nowitzki to play college basketball at Auburn after watching the Dallas Mavericks forward score “like 52” points with Scottie Pippen defending him.

Barkley went on to talk about the pay-for-play scandal involving Auburn and Cam Newton, calling the university’s alleged payments to the current Carolina Panthers quarterback a shrewd transaction.

“Everybody wants to give us a hard time about giving Cam Newton $200,000,” Barkley said in what appears to be a locker room. “That’s called a good damn investment. We got him for 200 grand? Are you kidding me? That’s a good deal!”

The NCAA cleared Newton of any wrongdoing after conducting an investigation during the 2010 season.
