Event: Bridging Musical Worlds: Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Location: The Historic Excelsior Club, 921 Beatties Ford Road 
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Description: FREE event with light refreshments featuring musicians of the Charlotte Symphony and A Sign the Times’ jazz ensemble “Going Through Changes,” the program proclaims Dr. King’s message of unity through the exploration of classical music and jazz. Although they are distinct musical “worlds,” classical music and jazz have learned much from each other and have much in common. In this three-part performance, the Charlotte Symphony string trio will play from the classical repertoire, followed by a jazz set by Going Through Changes. The event culminates in a rousing joint performance of special arrangements for the combined ensemble by A Sign of the Times director Tyrone Jefferson.

Description: Free event held in recognition of the MLK National Holiday at CPCC's Halton Theater. This year, Lockwood Home Owner Association President, Chris Dennis will be awarded with the Keeper of the Dream Award and Dr. David Jacobs, Associate Medical Director for Trauma Services at the F.H. "Sammy" Ross Trauma Institute at Carolinas Medical Center will be awarded the prestigious MLK Medallion Award. The CMS Arts and Writing Contest winners will be recognized and awarded scholarships for their outstanding writing and artistic abilities. Special guests include violinist Daniel Davis, recording artist Tunesha Crispell and Leap of Faith Dance Company.
